
The Certificate of Operational Competence in Occupational Hygiene is the entry level qualification required to join the Faculty of Occupational Hygiene as a Licentiate, and demonstrates knowledge and competence in the broad principles and practice of occupational hygiene.
This is a two-part, written and oral, examination held at the BOHS Office. Some exemptions apply for the Certificate Core (written) examination, but all candidates must take the Certificate Oral examination. The Core exams are usually held twice a year, in March and September, and the Oral exams four times a year, in March, June, September and December.
Pre-requisites
All candidates must be of graduate calibre, with a strong science, mathematics or engineering educational background, and have at least three years’ experience of comprehensive occupational hygiene practice.

If the candidate has a good standard of general education, together with three years experience of comprehensive occupational hygiene practice, and:

passes in the four compulsory modules: M101 to M104
passes in a further TWO optional modules from: M201, M202, M203, and S301
|
he/she is deemed to have passed the Certificate Core (i.e. exempt)

he/she is required to sit the Certificate Oral
|
or an approved‡ first or postgraduate degree in occupational hygiene
